Have bad 'disciples' cause many to turn away from faith?

Have so many confused individuals attempt to spread the gospel in a way that is hurtful that many people have learned to be weary of them altogether? I'm not speaking of the one's who avoid it because it means sacrificing their 'pleasures', but the genuinly good people who will simply turn town anyone who tries to open their heart and mind toward the savior.
