What drink is this? (Discription)?

I went out at the weekend and had 2 shots of something, it was black and it tasted like them sweets called blackjacks so I guess it had a liquorice kind of taste, I thought it was rum for some reason and now I am thinking it was sambuca because of people descriptions of the taste of sambuca but I was tipsy so that's probably why I thought it was rum hahahaha. I thought sambuca was a pinky colour though and smelled really nice but this what I had was black and smelled and tasted of liquorice :) please help.
