Argentine black and white tegu diet?

i was just wondering what could be a good diet for a tegu? i would feed mice occasionally and ground turkey and fruit but around where i live ground turkey is too expensive and ive also heard that tegus cant ingest large quantities of fur. i was just wondering what i could do? and also when it gets bigger will baby chicks be fine? or will there feathers do the same as mouse fur? i really want one but i want to make sure i can feed it properly. everything else about it i could deal with im just a little confused on the diet. thanks for all answers in advanced!
